via ABC News Australia:
Tony Enchelmaier became an amputee 14 years ago at the age of 32.
"I had a Volkswagen Kombi van camper and was just driving home from
work one day and a bloke coming the other way passed out and had a
head-on, just a couple of minutes from home," Mr Enchelmaier said.
"My wife and children were at home and they heard the helicopter and
the sirens and just thought I was stuck in the traffic."
His physical injuries, which included a broken left leg and a right
leg that needed to be amputated below the knee, left him unable to
bear weight for six months.
