Subject: [athen] Merging ADTECH and ATHEN listservs

I am posting this to both lists.

Something I would like your feedback on, and I am going to put on the
agenda for the ATHEN meeting at CSUN is the merging of the adtech and
the athen lists.  There are a lot of pluses and minuses, but it is
something to think about.

What think you?

i'm all for collaboration. there are enough listservs as is, and i
wasn't even aware of the ad-tech serv!!  this list isn't exactly an
inbox filler, either. i'm sure it could handle more volume without
impacting usefulness.

Remember that we are aiming to have the first copy of the ATHEN E-Journal
ready by CSUN. This first issue is focusing on e-text. Any of you who wish
to submit articles, please do so by the end of the day Monday, March 7.

And those of you on the East Coast have an advantage because that's the end
of the day here in California. <wink>

This is a reminder about the ATHEN meeting at the CSUN conference next
week.  The meeting will be held in the Marriott Hotel, Executive Suite

The formal meeting minutes should be available shortly but I would like
to provide you with an update on what was I feel a very productive
meeting.

- The bylaws have been passed with unanimous approval. See:

- The term of membership has been established to renew at the CSUN
conference each year, so it is time to renew. For clarification on the
membership categories see the bylaws. Renewals should be sent to me,
check, money order or draft only please payable to ATHEN.
	Professional $50 
      Associate $50 
      Student $25 
      Institutional $100
  
- Elections will be held in the next two months to form a permanent
slate of officers, get your nominations in as soon as possible.

- Sean Kegan has agreed to become our new webmaster, and he will be
sending our a call for assistance shortly.  He is going to work towards
it becoming a reference point for the field. He has some great ideas but
will need help if we are going to be successful.

- Our first e-journal will be published shortly, on best practices in
Electronic Text Production.  We are currently looking for topics for the
next issue.

- The survey, and the adtech-ps archives are going to be mind for AT
competency based information, with the goal of presenting an ATHEN
strand at the next CSUN conference on professional development.

Thanks to all that participated, and those that agreed to take things
on.

Mt. Everest Climber & Author of Touch the Top of the World: A Blind Man's
Journey To Climb Farther Than The Eye Can See

The University of Colorado at Boulder invites speaker proposals for its 8th
annual Accessing Higher Ground Conference.The conference, which takes place
adjacent to the Boulder campus, focuses on the implementation and benefits of
Assistive Technology in the university and college setting.  Other topic 
areas include
legal and policy issues, including ADA and 508 compliance; making campus media
and information resources accessible, including Web pages and library 
resources.
For the main conference, accepted out-of-town speakers will receive a 25% 
discount off
conference registration fees. Local speakers will receive a 15% discount. 
Additional
incentives are provided for accepted pre-conference proposals. For more 
information,
