Thanks, Ron-
The RS mic you suggest is an omni-directional unit, though.
The student needs to be able to aim the mic at the desired sound source,
so as to isolate it from the background sounds/noise. A highly
directional mic with a high level output is what we need. I'll check
RS's other listings.

I think all the ALD manufactures have a conferencing microphone option
that you can purchase. At Oregon State we use the Phonic Ear equipment
and have had very good luck daisy-chaining their units together.
Another mic you may want to try is a PZM that you can get at Radio
Shack.

They are great self powered mics or for use in small classrooms or at
meetings, all of the Telex equipment I have looked at used a standard
plug so this should work with your equipment as well.

ATHEN folks,
We'd like to enable our students who use Telex FM ALDs to hear questions
asked by students and other classroom interactions by providing a
hand-held microphone which can be aimed in the desired direction. The
mic would be plugged into the aux jack on the Telex TDR-4AA FM receiver
that receives the lecture.
I tried a generic microphone, but the level was too low. Though I could
put something together that will work, I wonder if Telex has an
accessory mic. I tried to find one on their web site, but was frustrated
by the lack of clear navigation--or maybe the info just isn't there.
So--does anyone have info on using a microphone with these older Telex
FM receivers? (The built-in mics are not directional enough and
introduce too much background noise.)
Thanks,
Nick
