Job Description For A.T. Specialist Position Opening at Northern Arizona
University Disability Resources.

* Provides individualized training and support in the use and
identification of assistive hardware and software to individuals with
disabilities.

* Identifies, reviews, and recommends assistive software and/or equipment
to serve as a reasonable accommodation for individuals with disabilities;
answers questions, provides resources, resolves problems, and researches
adaptive computer technology options. Involves close working relationships
with DSS Specialists and ITS.

* Installs, configures, maintains and trouble-shoots assistive technology
products. Contacts assistive technology companies if technical support is
needed.

* Serves as department liaison to communicate with vendors to resolve
conflicts, pursue licensing and maintenance agreements, arrange for product
demonstrations and loans.

* Conducts assistive technology product demonstrations for university
educators, students. Departments, and other disability service providers.

* Communicates with university departments on campus regarding assistive
technology needs and to increase awareness about universal design concepts
for individuals with disabilities.

* Collaborates with ITS in the development of campus-wide accessible
technology plan, which includes web page and online course accessibility.

* Provides consultation to ITS, Media Services and Distributed Learning on
disabled access issues related to technology for distance learning or
research.

* Maintains DSS website and online forms related to DSS programs and
services.

* Responsible for the alternative format program.

Minimum Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Rehabilitation Engineering AND
one year experience selecting and implementing Assistive Technology stand
alone devices and network computer systems AND one year experience writing
ADA compliant web pages; OR
* Two years experience in Rehabilitation related field AND two years
experience selecting and implementing Assistive Technology stand alone
devices and network computer systems AND two years experience writing ADA
compliant web pages; OR
* Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications

* CSUN certificate of completion
* RESNA Certification
* At least 15 hours of Assistive Technology coursework

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

* Considerable knowledge of stand-alone and network operating systems, and
a general familiarity with common software applications.
* In-depth knowledge of assistive computer hardware and software for
individuals with disabilities.
* Understanding of ADA and federal regulations governing computer
technology.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills and group presentation
abilities.
* Ability to work with people from a variety of culturally diverse
backgrounds.

General Information

This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position.
Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires
satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background
investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in
some cases) and fingerprinting.

Salary

$50,000 - $55,000 depending on experience.
