This past week was the 11th annual Accessing Higher Ground conference in
beautiful Boulder, Colorado . An important activity during the conference is
the annual business meeting of ATHEN and this year was especially important.
The minutes of the meeting are being deciphered and will be available on the
organization website soon, but in the meantime here are a some hi-lites:

1. The revised Bylaws were approved by a unanimous vote of the quorum
present.
2. The Standing Rules were also presented and met approval by the
membership - these will continue to grow as the need arises.
3. Our colleague Saroj Primlani (of North Carolina State University) was
honored as the second recepient of the ATHEN Lifetime Honorary Membership.
4. Accessing Higher Ground conference attandance continues to grow as
does the number and quality of presentations. Be sure to check out the new
Accessing Higher Ground blog .
5. ATHEN will be present in force at the ATIA conference in January of
next year.
6. The latest edition of the E-Journal is well on its way to
publication.
7. Because the new Bylaws were approved, a call has gone out for
nominations for Officers. Contact Dan Comden for nominations as he is
heading up the Election Committee.
8. Speaking of which, several committees created through the Bylaws
attracted interest and I just want to thank the following members for
stepping up as Chairpersons: + Elections: Dan Comden + Membership: Joe
Humbert + Bylaws: Gaeir Dietrich + Publications: Teresa Haven + Professional
Development: Ron Stewart Complete information about committees and other
activities will be in the minutes. The Bylaws created additional?Committees
that are in need of leadership. If interested in heading a committee, or if
you would like to join a committee and need to get in touch with the
Chairperson, contact the ATHEN Secretary Dann Berkowitz (who also happens to
run this blog). -------------------- Daniel Berkowitz Digilife Media, LLC 1

Hi Dann,

I agree wholeheartedly with the enthusiasm you have conveyed about our AHG
conference!! It was my very first time at AHG, and by far the best among the
number of different ones I have attended in the past 5 years as far as
training and general knowledge/expertise is concerned.

What a great body of knowledge we have amongst us!

BTW, Ron and I agreed to co-chair the professional development committee.
We will be searching out a few more members to round out the knowledge base
for us.

Blessings in abundance,

Wink

Thanks Wink -- so many people were throwing committee interests at me so
fast it was difficult to keep up.

If anyone has interest in any committees - please let me know. It is the
responsibility of the Secretary to track this information.

My Ralphie was sulking on his bookcase behind my desk along with my smart
conference plaque and I was not even there to congratulate Saroj! I really
missed you all and the event, so am looking forward to more blogs on the
subjects that were covered.

As I said to Dann - happy to help where I can on one of these new
committees! CPD may be a bit difficult from across the pond but we are
looking at what sort of MSc is needed for computer scientists who wish to
take up Assistive Technology as a profession! The core modules and type of
support mechanisms etc.
Best wishes E.A.

I have made my interest in joining the publication committee known to
the committee chair.

And I agree, give me a few days to recuperate from AHG. I have expense
reports to do, a report on my presentation, a report on the conference,
payroll for my student workers, and some firing of student workers to do
before I can even think about anything else.

Yes, leaving for a week is always dicey around here, and the ones that
were already skating on thin ice fell right in without any pushing from
me. My ranks are getting thin. THIN. LOL

LOL! Well, that's a lot of what the folks working on the e-Journal have
done in the past, but we'll figure out reasonable tasks for everyone.
Thanks for replying so that I can easily put you into my contacts, and will
be back in touch in the near future to start work on the next issue.
Take care,
Teresa
