Here is the converter that I have used in the past with pretty good success:

It should be recognized with JAWS, as long as the computer assigns the proper com port to the USB converter.

I can't answer your question, but if for some reason if it can't, please
check with Opticon folks as I believe the battery from the Navigater can be
used with the Opticon.
