[Athen] ...but still no DAISY

Sony announces their newest Kindle competitor -- the Daily Edition e-
reader -- to go along with their two previously-announced versions,
the Reader Pocket Edition and Reader Touch Edition. But...still no
DAISY compatibility.

Earlier this month, Sony announced that by the end of the year they
would only sell digital books in the ePub format, an open standard
created by publishers. Alluding to this during their latest product
release, Steve Haber, president of Sony's Digital Reading Business
Division, stated:
"It's all about access to content ... We want it to be a ubiquitous
experience, not locked in -- open, open, open."
If that's so, then it's kind of ironic that they wouldn't also support
an open international standard like DAISY. Here's hoping that Apple
sees fit to include DAISY compatibility when it enters the fray
sometime between September and next January.
