[Athen] feedback on change of venue for Accessing Higher Ground 2009

I'm a pretty consistent critic of the Millenium, so moving to another
hotel with better amenities is definitely an improvement. I actually
didn't stay at the Millenium this past year because of the trouble I've
had there the last few years. I stayed down the street at the Golden
Buff lodge where I had a full kitchen and separate bedroom, all for $20
less a night, and FREE wifi in the room. The Millenium just can't
compete with that, in my book.

Westminster is just down the road from Boulder, and is closer to Denver
and the airport. I don't see that being a disadvantage for most of us.
Boulder has its own charm and I've enjoyed it, but have also watched it
grow in unwieldy leaps and bounds over the last six years, making it a
much more difficult town to get around in and truly enjoy. And let's
face it, if I want to hang out in Boulder, I can still find a way...

Subject: [Athen] feedback on change of venue for Accessing Higher Ground

Hello All:

We're 90% decided on moving the conference to the Westin (in
Westminster), about 15 miles south east of Boulder and about 13 miles
from downtown Denver. You can view the hotel website at
tyID=1173. The meeting space is much nicer, so are the sleeping rooms,
it's more accessible and it's a much newer hotel. The room prices will
be the same as last year - $119, including free wireless in the rooms
and a $10 coupon for breakfast.

However, before we make a final decision, I'd like to hear feedback from
the ATHEN group since this is the official conference of the
organization. Does anyone have any strong objections. The drawback of
the location is that it's not Boulder (or Denver). But there's just
nothing in Boulder that can provide better meeting space.

We're also thinking about extending the conference a half-day, ending on
Saturday noon.

As always, I look forward to your feedback.
