Program Director




The Silicon Valley Independent Living Center (SVILC) is searching for a
Program Director to join us in our mission to create fully inclusive
communities that value the dignity, equality, freedom and worth of every
human being. We are a cross-disability, intergenerational, and multicultural
disability justice organization that builds disability identity, culture and
pride; creates opportunities for personal and community transformation; and
partners with others to ensure that civil and human rights are protected. We
aim to take the independent living movement to the next level by
transforming what it means to be a center for independent living.



The Program Director is a full-time position that reports directly to the
Executive Director. The ideal candidate will be responsible for program
development, departmental budgeting and planning, development and
implementation of annual goals and objectives, staffing the Board Program
Committee, staff supervision, and monitoring the implementation/reporting of
all federal, state, and private grants.



Necessary Experience and Skills:

* 5 years experience working in the area of disability rights.

* 3 years experience in top-level non-profit program management.

* Sound understanding of computer technology, social networking tools,
and the Internet to support goals or agendas.

* Extensive knowledge and understanding of disability rights laws,
disability history, Independent Living philosophy, and a
social/political/interactional model of disability.

* Demonstrated competency in advocacy, program development, grant
management/writing/reporting, budgeting and evaluation.

* Work occasional nights and weekends, as needed, to support events,
meetings, and deadlines

* Bilingual capability (including American Sign Language) is not
required, but preferred.

* An understanding of, and commitment to, disability justice and equal
opportunity within a rights-based, social justice framework.



Compensation: Depending upon candidate's experience and track record, this
position offers a competitive compensation package that includes generous
benefits.
