I agree. I've used a Wacom Graphire (their pre-Bamboo version) with OneNote and NoteBook (rough Mac equivalent) and it works well. The main issue to consider is the visual-motor coordination, as the individual is handwriting and drawing in one place and seeing the results in another -- some people can do this better than others. If the student uses OneNote's handwriting recognition, this could be a factor. Also, the graphics tablet will take extra space (now you need desk space for it and the laptop), though technically you can place the tablet in your lap.
