You can also put the Apply Styles Pane/Ctrl + Shift + S in the Quick Access
Toolbar which makes it function like the same item in the Formatting toolbar
of Word 2003.

I have instructions for this in a document on my web site. It is the
document on how to set up Word/Office 2007 if you are using adaptive
technology.

I know this doesn't deal with the issue of the Styles Pane and access to it
but it is another way of applying styles..and is fast.

Cheers, Karen

Jon,

I just spoke with Denis from FS. He said the Styles dialog is a known issue
and has been fixed in the up-coming release. It should be out in a couple
of weeks. Interesting that Eric doesn't seem to know about this. He's been
giving me quite the run around.

BTW, in working with my sighted student worker, I realize that there is a
difference between the commands: CTRL+SHIFT+S and CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+S. The
CTRL+SHIFT+S command (which Eric said is the proper one for 2007) takes you
into the Apply Styles box which visually is in the upper left corner of the
screen. It does not have all of the features of the other box. The
ALT+CTRL+SHIFT+S command opens a different box which JAWS simply announces
as Styles. This box is larger and visually located down the right side of
the screen. This is the box I need as it has all of the options, buttons,
check boxes, etc.

Oh yes, the command ALT+O, S gives the same results as ALT+CTRL+SHIFT+S.

Okay, that's about as much as I know. Hopefully the update will fix this
for me.

Robert,

I am not having that problem with my JAWS 11 installation. You may want to
try using the Styles hot-key which is CTRL+ALT++SHIFT+S to get into the
styles window. That may help.

I'll keep playing with Word to see if I can replicate your issue, but it
seems very strange to me.

Good Luck,

Jon

Hey all,

Is it just me, or is there an issue with JAWS 11 and the Styles window in
Word 2007? On the machines I have JAWS 11 installed on, when I press ALT+O
then S to go into the Styles window, focus moves to the window then
immediately moves back to the document. I cannot select any of the styles
from the keyboard. On machines that I'm still running JAWS 10 on, the
keyboard access works perfectly. Any ideas?
