[Athen] mac, skype and VO

Dear colleagues,

I know of an individual who is blind where her mac set-up is set to log
onto skype and VO whenever the computer is powered up. The problem is
that because she is in Oman, where officially skype is blocked, she has
to connect to the internet using a usb modem. The thing is VO does not
detect the device and therefore it requires a sighted person to do the
connecting.  They have tried to find a solution time and time again
without success.  Is anyone familiar with anything that would help her
continue her independence?  She's looking to set-up an office of
accessibility and she would like to use Macs because of the VO feature.


I appreciate any help on this.
