[Athen] automated communication with students re alt format progress

Good morning. I would like to switch from manual "heads up" communication with students regarding the status of their alt format requests to an automated system. What automated communication have you implemented? I apologize for cross-posting this questions to a few lists. Thanks in advance for any info.
