[Athen] captioning

Hi Wink,
I feel like we have a pretty good captioning plan here at PCC. We only ask
that faculty transcribe or caption media that they produce (or the college
produces for them.) And they only have to do that if they are going to use
the media for more than one term.
Any other media they choose to use will be captioned on a need basis. We do
encourage faculty to look for captioned media first, but we don't require
that they only use captioned media.
For accommodation requests, we outsource our captioning needs to 3Play
Media. We have found their pricing (for a bulk purchase rate), their
service and the features (an interactive transcript is available for
anything they caption) to be top-notch. We estimate it is about the same
cost as doing the captioning in house, and it's a heck of a lot less
stressful.
Here's our webpage on media accessibility.

Feel free to contact me directly if you have more questions. Do you know
about the Oregon state funding for captioning? Every college in Oregon gets
29 hours. Sage Freeman at Chemeketa is coordinating the grant for that. I
can give you contact information if you don't have it.
Best wishes,
Karen
