I use WeTransfer to send the digital files.

https://www.wetransfer.com/

WeTransfer<https://www.wetransfer.com/>
www.wetransfer.com
WeTransfer is a free service to send big or small files from A to B

I like it because it sends be a confirmation that the file has been downloaded, it expires after 7 days and I have the choice to send it through WeTransfer, or provide students with a direct download link. In my experience, the free version has been robust enough to handle the file sizes I am transferring but if you encounter larger than normal files you can purchase the upgraded version.

Take Care,

Marinette

When I was at Syracuse, I used dropbox to deliver E-text to students. I set up a shared file between me and the student. Student could open it whatever device they wished. It was really nice for tablet users because they didn't have to download the book.

On the downside, I had to purchase a TB of space as the free one ran out very quickly.
Good luck!

Hi all,
I feel like this has already been addressed, but couldn't find it anywhere. I would like to explore new ways to distribute etext to students. One suggestion was Dropbox. I'm curious if any of you are using it and if you have any tips or suggestions on how to use it effectively for distributing etext. Thank you!

Leyna, it appears that filelocker is free? That's pretty cool! In my experience with dropbox, if I were to share a file, the student would have to create their own dropbox account in order to retrieve the information. I like the idea of not requiring the student to create an account, and I like that the filelocker download option stays open for two weeks and then goes away. Thanks for sharing!

We are using Filelocker which allows us to upload books and chapters and share them with specific students. When you share them, Filelocker sends the student an email with a link. They stay available for the student to download for 2 weeks and then go away. It's been convenient and successful so far. We have not used it with any blind students yet so I'm not sure about full accessibility.

I use Dropbox for some of our students. I provide them with 3 options for delivering their alt text
I can put the files on a CD - size permitting
I can put them on the student's thumb drive
Or Dropbox

The student does not need to have a DropBox account to retrieve the file. I send them a link to the file and they can download the file to their device. Computer, iPad, iPhone
The student sends me an email notification they were able to retrieve file and after two weeks I remove the file from Dropbox.

Hi all,

I have a student who is interested in the IRISPen Air 7 for scanning and TTS. Does anyone have any experience with this, or a similar device? How accurate is the OCR?

Thanks,

Jeff

Apart from the expected barriers presented by print material, handwritten white board content, projected images and online instructional material, I'm trying to anticipate other challenges a student with low vision may encounter in a "hands-on" networking classroom.

If any have had experience accommodating students with low vision who need to perform tasks like working with internal server components, wiring, etc. I'd appreciate any and all suggestions you may have.

Thank you!
