[Athen] Accessible information technology policies question

Hi,

I am working on refining our procedure here at Toledo. Our policy just states that an exception will need to be granted by the ADA Compliance Officer. Currently, I am in charge of the whole process, from reviewing VPAT, performing testing, working with venders to develop a roadmap and timeline, drafting and negotiating contract language, and granting exceptions. In the several cases where an exception has been granted, the end user provided me with a justification for the technology purchase as to why this technology is the only option. Most of the time, venders will work with me but in the several exceptions, they have refused to address accessibility and refused to include any accessibility language in the contract.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you would like more information.

Please see the CSU Accessible Procurement Process<http://teachingcommons.cdl.edu/access/procurement_process/index.shtml>. When an inaccessible product or a partially accessible product are the only options we have then CSU has an Equally Effective Alternate Access Plan<http://teachingcommons.cdl.edu/access/procurement_process/EEAAP.shtml> procedure.

Subject: [Athen] Accessible information technology policies question

For those that have an accessible information technology policy on campus (specifically one that includes procurement) - how are acquisitions for which there is no accessible alternative handled?

For example: a program of study wants to acquire a software application that does X. They do a search and are unable to find an accessible application to do X. How does your policy handle this?

Feel free to respond offline, if that is more comfortable.
Thanks,
Shawn
