[Athen] digital story book software

These videos were talking about using pictures for the background then adding other pictures and animating them for the story. They specified using textboxes for the text, then doing recordings for each slide to read the text. Creating the story, doing the recording and setting timings are very accessible. As far as that goes, adding pictures is accessible as well. The problem comes in when trying to size pictures and place pictures over pictures in the correct positions. Also, drawing animation paths would not be accessible from what I can tell.

Because of the visual nature of these types of projects, I doubt any other digital story book software would be any more accessible. My though is that a visually impaired individual will need sighted assistance to create a digital story book, regardless of the software being used. I'm hoping somebody will prove me wrong though. <grin>

I think if we use PowerPoint it needs audio and captioning. In some workshops I teach how to make a story for kids using PowerPoint but we add audio...and now captioning and sometimes video description to enhance the accessibility.

Cheers, Karen

I did find some videos on using PowerPoint to create a digital story book, but it didn't seem completely accessible to a screen reader user. If one of the objects of the project is to create an interactive story book, then PowerPoint probably isn't the way to go.

This is a timely question and Robert asked first...I have someone who needs to create an accessible children's book and would appreciate any suggestions for software...or the best way to create an inclusive children's book.

Cheers, Karen

Hello all,

I have somebody needing to create a digital story book for a class project. Can anybody recommend a package that is accessible with either Voice Over and a Mac or NVDA on a PC?

Thanks.
