This may be an option if he is a fast typist on the device. I'll have to run this by him. Thanks for the idea.

If the student is just looking for a way to have text they type read aloud: iOS actually has a feature called Speak Selection, which allows you to select text and have your device speak it. Works in basically any app. Macs also have a similar feature built in. No third-party apps needed.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply. I didn’t even think to ask if he wants word or picture based, but I’m guessing word based. If you could connect the instructor and I, that would be great. I can get her feedback on the app and see if I can apply it to his specific situation.

Hi Robert,

I would ask if the user is looking for a picture or word based system. We have a professor here at Mason that uses her iPad as an AugComm device to supplement her speech in meetings. She likes word-based systems. I believe she uses Verbally, https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/verbally/id418671377?mt=8#<https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/verbally/id418671377?mt=8> but I am checking with her. This system allows her to save commonly used phrases, questions, in a format she prefers. However, it looks like it is only for the iPad. I am sure she will have other options to share. Perhaps I can connect the two of you?

I hope this helps. ~Kristine

Hi Robert,
I remember Proloquo2Go<https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/proloquo2go-symbol-based-aac/id308368164?mt=8>. Unfortunately I don’t have any experience actually using it.

Hello all,

It has been at least 15 years since I’ve had any dealings with any kind of augmentative communication systems. I have a student with some speech delay issues and is looking for an aug com system to supplement his speech. He uses Mac and IOS devices. I’d like to find something he could use on his iPhone if possible. Does anybody have any recommendations? Are there any questions I should be asking him that I haven’t thought of?

Thanks for any feedback.
