Hi David,
There's no reason to spend the extra money on the medical version of Dragon
Naturally Speaking. Either professional individual version or the premium
version provide enough support for what your student needs to be able to do.

In order to create customized vocabulary, you can create a vocabulary list
using Microsoft Word and import to DNS, scan a document with medical
vocabulary pertaining to the veterinary science program & import it into
DNS, or add vocabulary as it comes along. The student would then train the
pronunciation of the vocabulary. it's a little time-consuming in the
beginning, but once you get the hang of it, it's not hard at all to do
this.
