The Disability Services Center at University of California, Irvine is seeking a Director (Req No.: 2017-1143).



Job Summary:

The UC Irvine Disability Services Center (DSC) coordinates and facilitates access to academic and non­academic services, programs and facilities for students with documented permanent or temporary disabilities. The DSC currently provides services to approximately 1,500 students annually. DSC's mission will evolve and change over time due to emerging disabilities, increasing student populations and changing laws and regulations.

Under the general direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor, Wellness, Health and Counseling, the Director of Disability Services Center is responsible for the overall management, direction and long-term development of the Disability Services Center. The Director manages support services on behalf of all students with disabilities enrolled at UCI as well as those in The School of Continuing Education (Extension), Summer Sessions, summer programs and camps, and visitors to campus programs. The Director evaluates the office and organization in the following respects: assess all programs and staff responsibilities, relations with student clientele, faculty and academic and academic support departments, assistive equipment needs and communication strategies including a comprehensive website; and prepare program enhancements and an organizational plan including cost estimates and a proposed implementation schedule.

The Director provides leadership to establish, implement and maintain best practices, policies, procedures and programs necessary to operate a highly rated, best practice oriented operation providing services to students with disabilities. The Director ensures compliance with federal laws, state regulations and University-wide and campus guidelines related to equal access and resources and services to student with disabilities. The Director collaborates across campus units and academic departments with faculty and staff regarding application of policies concerning the delivery of services to students with disabilities. The Director works with the Office of the President and counterparts at UC campuses, other colleges and universities, high schools and community and state agencies regarding issues related to disabled student services. The Director is expected to participate in national advocacy organizations and is expected to assume a leadership role within the UC system as well more broadly.

The Director develops policies and processes to ensure that the services provided support full access to educational and co-curricular opportunities at UC Irvine. The Director provides dynamic leadership and vision for planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating a wide spectrum of student services. The Director is responsible for developing and implementing an effective multi-dimensional communication plan aimed at students, faculty and staff via electronic, print and other media. The Director is responsible for establishing and maintaining good and productive relations with relevant constituencies including students, faculty and staff who are involved with processes and services related to accommodating students with disabilities. The Director of DSC manages all aspects of the administration of the Disability Services Center. The Director exercises independent judgment, originality and creativity and high-level problem-solving skills to establish the organizations goals and to ensure their effective implementation and outcomes.

The Director of Disability Services Center serves on the campus Mental Health Initiative as well as on a variety of campus and system-wide committees. The Director develops and delivers curriculum for implementing student learning outcomes, measurement and evaluation of programs and services. This includes the development of student learning outcomes and methods to assess programmatic and service delivery effectiveness, development and delivery of training curriculum in the assessment process as well as department and individual consultation of best practices in assessment and evaluation.
