[Athen] [EXT] Word form fields with JAWS

Only if you want to keep the end user from making changes. I've used forms where I could navigate the text as well as the form fields with JAWS. In fact, you can use the JAWS Quick Keys to find forms quickly. At least that's what I rmember. I've slept since then, so I could be still remembering a dream. <big smile>

But with the old ActiveX/legacy form controls, don't you have to protect parts of the document to force focus to the form controls?

Cheers, Karen

It sounds like the designer used the new form field types instead of the legacy forms. That is my first quick guess. If they can change those to the legacy forms, JAWS "should" read them fine.

Good Morning!

Our Graduate School provides MS-Word templates<https://www.purdue.edu/gradschool/research/thesis/templates.html> for thesis and dissertation formatting. The templates they created make use of Word form fields. A JAWS user wants to use a template to write his dissertation, but says JAWS skips a lot of required fields.

When I opened one of the templates (attached), I found JAWS interacts with edit fields just fine. However, I'm unable to get it to read combo boxes. It will announce the name of the combo box, but it won't allow me to open the list of options to make a selection. I'm not a strong JAWS user. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Or are these fields just not accessible?

Thanks,

Dean
