[Athen] Screen Masking solutions other than Read&Write ...

Two options that some of my students like are the Screen Mask extension in Chrome and the Oneline extension. Another different type of focus extension tool is the readermode.io<https://readermode.io/> tool. Readermode has the ability to simplify the interface, use a “Dyslexia Ruler”, choose preferred fonts and display features such as line length, font size and line height. Some students like the Pro version which is a $15 one time investment.

Hello Jeff,

Immersive Reader is a great alternative to BeelineReader and is free. Can be found in most MS Office products, Edge browser, and it can be enabled in Canvas.

But if you want a masking overlay, you might still be able to get the Claro ScreenRuler: https://www.texthelp.com/en-gb/solutions/dsa/claroread/ Texthelp bought them out, but it looks like they may have some of the tools still available.

Or maybe a set of Irlen glasses (all over amazon) or a computer screen overlay? https://irlen.mybigcommerce.com/colored-overlays/

If you’re student is wanting a distraction free browser, try out Brave Browser. It’s based on Chromium and can install anything from the Chrome store, but has additional security features built in. It blocks all ads by default, forces https connections, has noscript built-in, and actually displays PDF’s with tags…unlike other browsers. I can also extract text from images in the browser, which I accidently found out when attempting to download an image.

Hello,

What solutions have some of you been utilizing for screen masking for students besides Read&Write? We moved to Speechify at the U of A and a student is wondering what solutions might be possible for this capability. Beeline is a paid product and I was wondering if people had other solutions for this intended purpose.

Any pointers are sincerely appreciated.

Jeff
