[Athen] Policies on loaned lab equipment?

Hi all,

We have a student with limited mobility taking a course that requires trips to the field and using scopes to observe things. We've hired a lab assistant as part of the accommodation for the student to assist with the equipment, and the faculty requested we purchase an adapter to further assist with the labs. Our office policy has been to loan such equipment to the faculty member (we have a form they fill out) on the basis of the equipment we purchase being a part of the lab equipment that the faculty would be setting up for the class. This also helps ensure the student doesn't accidentally damage or lose the equipment. However, our faculty have pushed back, saying they do not want to be responsible for such equipment and that it should be loaned to the student instead since it's for them.

How do other folks handle such a scenario?

Thanks,
