[Athen] large font scantron sheets?

Providing an enlarged Scantron sheet for a student who is blind or low-vision presents challenges, as standard optical mark recognition (OMR) scanners are calibrated for specific form sizes and layouts. Modifying these parameters can lead to scanning errors. Currently, Scantron does not offer large-print versions of their standard forms.

Alternative Solutions:

1. Custom OMR Forms: Some companies specialize in creating custom OMR forms tailored to specific needs. These forms can be designed with larger print and bubbles, but it's crucial to ensure compatibility with existing scanning equipment. Consulting with your institution's IT or assessment department can provide guidance on this option.

2. Assistive Technology: Leveraging technology can empower students to complete assessments independently:

* Digital Exams: Administering the exam electronically allows the student to adjust font sizes and contrast settings according to their preferences.

* Screen Readers and Magnification Software: Tools like screen readers or screen magnifiers can assist in navigating digital exams. Resources such as Teaching Students with Visual Impairments <https://www.teachingvisuallyimpaired.com/accessible-educational-materials.html> offer insights into accessible educational materials.

3. Alternative Answer Sheets: If the student prefers a physical format, consider providing a large-print answer sheet where they can mark responses. While this sheet may not be scannable, manual grading ensures the student's independence is respected.

4. Consultation with Accessibility Services: Engaging with organizations specializing in accessible education can offer tailored solutions. For example, the Perkins School for the Blind <https://www.perkins.org/accessible-science-for-students-with-visual-impairments/> provides resources on making educational materials accessible to students with visual impairments.

Considerations:

* Compatibility: Ensure any custom or alternative forms are compatible with your institution's scanning and grading systems to prevent processing issues.

* Student Preferences: Involve the student in discussions about alternative formats to ensure the chosen solution aligns with their comfort and independence.

* Pilot Testing: Before full implementation, test your chosen solution to identify and address any potential challenges.

While standard large-print Scantron sheets are not readily available, exploring these alternatives can help accommodate the student's needs while maintaining the integrity of the assessment process.

Subject: [Athen] large font scantron sheets?

We have a student who is wanting a large font scantron sheet, which, really, isn’t useful due to it not being able to be read like a traditional scantron, but he is very independent minded and it upset him that all he could do was circle the correct answers on the large print version, and not fill out a bubble sheet.

So, I’m asking…does anyone know of enlarged font scantron sheets?
