A group interested in working on this meet about every six weeks. We have tested the equation editor in Microsoft Word and find it to be very good, but it does have a few issues. Microsoft has agreed to work on this with us. To join this group, fill out this simple form at: https://daisylists.org/postorius/lists/math.daisylists.org/ Math Type has not been updated in many years and we no longer recommend its use. The group is not working on image recognition of math expressions. We are using MathML from HTML or from EPUB. The WordToEPUB and HTML produces MathML from MS Word. MathPix is a paid alternative, and of course, creating MathType in Word is still one of the best options, although it is a manual process. It is disappointing that TextHelp went this direction, but considering their "campus-wide pricing" structure, they still do not understand Higher Education's needs vs. how K-12 uses their products. So out of touch, even after all these years. A new host has been found and they are beginning the process of setting up the database. Simultaneously, publishers are reaching out to CIDI with requests for files to transfer to the new database. There is some additional programming work that needs to be done, as well as testing. I don't have an exact ETA on the final product but publishers are continuing to encourage AAP to push for an early Beta. In the meantime, Macmillan books can be requested directly at webaccessibility@macmillanlearning.com to make a request. I think AHEAD started a database of publisher contacts for sourcing titles too, but I'm not sure where that lives. What about policy around blended learning? Can we improve strategic oversight and bolster staff capabilities? What impact will this have on digital accessibility? Join us in the International Ally User Group on Thursday 22 August 2024 at 07:00 PDT / 10:00 EDT / 15:00 BST / 16:00 CEST / 17:00 TRT / 18:00 GST to learn from serious thinkers on these topics. # Session synopses ## What governance for accessibility in a university? Guy Hickling, Freelance Accessibility Consultant. In this session, Guy explores the need for top-down leadership in universities to ensure accessibility for disabled students. He will argue against leaving accessibility to IT teams, citing their lack of jurisdiction and the limitations of awareness campaigns. Guy will present a practical solution developed with a university?s senior management and discuss the benefits of an Accessibility Board led by a Pro-Vice Chancellor. Guy will conclude with the recommendation of a dedicated Accessibility Change project to achieve full digital accessibility. ## Digital Accessibility - Enhancing Blended Learning through Inclusive Practice Alyson Hwang - Senior Researcher, Policy Connect and Robert McLaren ? Director of the ATech Policy Lab, Policy Connect. The presentation will explore the findings of Policy Connect and the Higher Education Commission's report, "Digitally Enhanced Blended Learning: Leveraging the Benefits of Technology for Higher Education," highlighting how digital accessibility can enhance blended learning through inclusive practices. Key recommendations include: - improving leadership and strategic oversight, - bolstering staff digital capabilities, - ensuring equitable access to technology, - and leveraging educational technology to support diverse learning needs. Emphasising inclusive design and personalised learning paths, the report underscores the transformative potential of blended learning to widen participation and enhance student outcomes in higher education through the use of digital solutions. And I use it myself for professional development. When I got a new Victor Stream 3 I easily authorized it for NLS BARD but Learning Ally's automated authorization process failed stating my serial number was invalid. I contacted both Learning Ally and Humanware and was told that the Stream 3, due to a problem on the Learning Ally side was not able to be authorized to play their books. This is less of a problem in the higher ed space where students prefer to use their phones or tablets to access the service. But in the K12 space and some community colleges, players are purchased for students to listen to audio books. Because one can no longer purchase the second generation Stream from Humanware, which can be authorized for Learning ally, it's important to know that the new Stream 3 won't work with this service. --Debee -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Curious if anyone else is experiencing this. I'm using the latest version of NVDA. According to the NVDA user guide, if you press NVDA + Spacebar to go into browse mode, you can then press NVDA + F7 to go into the Elements list. If the Word document has track changes and/or comments, they can be listed by going to the Annotations tab. They are combined into one list which is OK because Comments are identified separately from the Track Changes. I've tried this numerous times over the past two weeks and up until today, it worked flawlessly. I get a list of both track changes/revisions and comments. Comments are identified as Comments in the list so it is usable. However, this morning, I am only seeing Comments in the Annotations list, not the Track Changes. I thought that maybe I needed to update Microsoft 365 which I did but still only get the Comments listed, not the Track Changes/revisions. I do have other keyboard commands I can use to move around the Track Changes and accept them or reject them, that isn't the issue. The issue is that the NVDA Elements list is no longer giving me the Track Changes. Is anyone else seeing this? I did check for an update to NvDA and my version is up to date. I also tried getting the list without going into browse mode but still only get the Comments...or the Editor Pane opens. The result is inconsistent. Cheers, Karen -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:
