[Athen] Options for EquatIO

Hello,
At CSUN, this year I was one of the people presenting on the Reading and
Writing of math for people who are blind.
A group interested in working on this meet about every six weeks. We have
tested the equation editor in Microsoft Word and find it to be very good,
but it does have a few issues. Microsoft has agreed to work on this with us.
To join this group, fill out this simple form at:
https://daisylists.org/postorius/lists/math.daisylists.org/
Math Type has not been updated in many years and we no longer recommend its
use. The group is not working on image recognition of math expressions. We
are using MathML from HTML or from EPUB. The WordToEPUB and HTML produces
MathML from MS Word.
Best
George

Caution should still be taken with using Microsoft's built-in Equation
Editor - it still does not give you accessible math.
MathPix is a paid alternative, and of course, creating MathType in Word is
still one of the best options, although it is a manual process.
It is disappointing that TextHelp went this direction, but considering their
"campus-wide pricing" structure, they still do not understand Higher
Education's needs vs. how K-12 uses their products. So out of touch, even
after all these years.

Hi all
For those who may not yet know, text help has removed free teacher access to
EquatIO as of June 30, 2024. I received this link from NOAT today for some
additional math support for teachers. It's worth checking out and seeing
what might be the most useful for your instructors or your work group. And
don't forget about Microsoft Word's equation editor & math type.
