Greetings, I have a faculty member who uses some stress relief / mindfulness videos as part of his curriculum. All of these videos rely heavily on sound (e.g. soft music - close your eyes, breathe in, breathe out - imagine your body relaxing from your toes, now your feet, ankles etc...). While we do have these captioned and transcripts available, having to read the instructions rather diminishes (negates) the effectiveness of the activities. So, I am reaching out for suggestions on ways to make these activities work for those who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing - and/or to ask for any suggestions of activities that could be included that don't rely on sound to be effective. As a fan of UDL, providing options for the students seems a great idea at any rate. Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. The more relaxed one becomes, the longer and lower the sound waves. This technique uses a skin sensor & biofeedback to control the sound waves (https://choosemuse.com/) Also consider using haptic feedback. There are a couple of apps called Lull and Thrum It might be a good idea to seek out someone in your area that teaches meditation using biofeedback to explore what techniques can be adapted for use for students with disabilities. Please contact your college IT Help Desk if you have any questions Hi Everyone, I would like to request some input from the community on how mobile apps are being tested for accessibility. I'm looking to create a test environment that doesn't involve the use of personal devices or accounts. * What type of setup is being used to install and run these apps? * Preferably on a desktop computer. * What recommended tools, if any, are being used to scan mobile apps for accessibility? * Besides the usual things to check for, such as form labels and alt texts, is there a guideline for manual checking of accessibility? Any information would be appreciated and thank you in advance. Khoa -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I understand the mobile app has more accessibility features but the user will be spending most of their time on the laptop. There is a Zutilo plugin on Github for the Zotero desktop which could be a starting point to improve missing accessibility features (I cannot confirm this, but this would be my starting point at addressing issues since it fixes some inaccessible areas): https://github.com/wshanks/Zutilo Best, Joshua Hori Accessible Technology Coordinator Information Educational Technology Academic Technology Services 50 Hutchison Dr. Davis, CA 95616 530-752-2439 Schedule a meeting via Calendly From: Bishop, Jeff - (jeffbis) Date: Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 2:13?PM To: Joshua Hori , Access Technology Higher Education Network , Khoa Pham Subject: Zotero Accessibility ... Things are a-poppin here in Salem Oregon... Greetings, I have been approached by a couple of math teachers who handwrite notes while explaining things in class - they use One Note on a tablet projected onto a screen. They then share the file with the students as a PDF at the end of class. Obviously, these notes are not at all accessible. We have tried using the ink to text but it does not work at all well - the text comes out in a thin column that covers up the text and equations below it and in 17 different font sizes - and the equations end up as images when sent to Word or PDF. It would take A LOT of work to make them readable and the instructors don't have the time or inclination to do that with everything else on their plate. We also have several instructors who like to post pictures of their whiteboards after class... The students find these notes really helpful but we don't want to post inaccessible materials so we are in a serious conundrum. Has anyone else found a good solution for making handwritten materials accessible for everyone? Any suggestions or recommendations that don't require having to redo them after each class would be greatly appreciated... The instructors are not attached to One Note - it is just a convenient tool that they had available...
