Check out EVT.ai for it’s ease of use and access. The instructor doesn’t change anything about how they teach. It’s a lecture capture system that extracts instructors’ writings from the whiteboard and brings them into an interactive sidebar which students can use to navigate the course recording. The lecture handwritings are also available as a downloadable PDF. https://evt.ai/
I recall seeing a transcription service that converted transcribed math equations to mathjax after the course ended. I can’t seem to find the vendor who did this. Anyone else recall who this vendor is?
Mathpix works in everything. Old handwritten notes, image equations, whatever you throw at it, it’ll convert into math. Can be exported to Word’s Math Equation Editor, LaTeX, or as mathjax code (LaTeX surrounded by characters). The LaTeX can be used directly in Canvas, which uses mathjax 2.7.7. The chemistry OCR still needs work.
Livescribe doesn’t convert to math equations well at this point, although the instructor could speak the equation out as it’s written. This is more of a digital white board for Zoom sessions which can be shared with students.
EquatiO, last I heard, required a site license for instructor use. It has a math plugin for Word, making math easier in documents. If you’ve ever used the Math Equation Editor, you know what I mean!
Notability and GoodNotes makes math accessible in iOS apps easily, but I’ve never attempted to export into other formats or integrate into Canvas.

We piloted MathPix with our Physics faculty this summer to convert their hand written equations into fully accesssible HTML in Canvas. I need to follow up with them but I believe it went really well.
Their customer service is a iffy - feels like a very small company- but affordable.

They may want to check out equatio, Heather. I believe it has some capability to recognize handwritten equations.

Greetings
Apologies for the cross-posting. We have been trying to figure out the best way for our math instructors to be able to post their handwritten notes after class so that they are more inclusive.
I know that there are smart pens that can record notes and convert handwriting to text so we had the idea that maybe this could be a way to make instructor's in-class notes more accessible.
However, I have not worked at all with smartpens so I have some questions:
* Are they also able to convert math formulas?
* How good is the text conversion and how much work will it require from the instructors to go from handwritten to text?
* Does it require special paper or can they be used on a tablet or touch screen?
* Do you have any recommendations for a Smartpen that would work for our needs?
* Is this even a possibility or am I wildly naive?
Thanks so much for your help.
H.
