# Session synopsis

## Creating a culture of accessibility

Kelly Hermann, Vice President of Accessibility, Equity & Inclusion, University of Phoenix

“The University of Phoenix received a complaint from a student in 2015 regarding the accessibility of its course content and tools.

As was the case for many institutions who had similar experiences with student complaints and federal investigations, the University focused on ensuring all students had an accessible and inclusive learning experience, but it also made strategic decisions to create a culture of accessibility across the University.

Leveraging data, providing just in time professional development and shifting left became the hallmarks of building this culture from student facing staff to the executive leaders in the C-Suite.

We’ll share some of the lessons we have learned and how we continue to build on those early experience to bake accessibility into all aspects of the University.”
