Over the years as our = conference has grown, we have sought other venues to hold our conference. Due to = the need for a high level of accessibility, multiple rooms for many speaker sessions, large exhibit hall space and a strong desire to be near a = major airport, we have had a great deal of difficulty in finding an alternate venue. Last year, after our conference, when we polled participants, speakers and exhibitors about moving to another location in 2008 - = perhaps even out of state - we received mixed responses. What we did learn = though, was that our participants, like us, would prefer that we consolidate = both exhibit halls and all speaker sessions in one location. We have spent = much of this year considering our options, and visiting a variety of sites. = What we learned =96 to our dismay =96 is that there are very few locations = that are accessible to our audience and can meet our business needs. =20 =20 With that realization, we decided to think a little more creatively and recently have determined that there is a long term solution that meets = the needs of both our customer base and our business concerns. While we = have long term contracts with both hotels, we do have the ability to = terminate the agreement with one year=92s notice. So starting in 2008, we will = be erecting an Exhibits Pavilion, in the parking area of the LAX Marriott Hotel, moving all exhibitor space to that location, and utilizing the interior space in the Marriott for speaker sessions. We will be = previewing the new pavilion at this year=92s conference and think that you will = find our new venue to be a more user friendly location as it will mean that all events can be held on the Marriott properties. =20 In addition to this announcement, I also want to let you know that the Hilton hotel, along with 11 other LAX properties, is involved in a labor dispute with Unite Here, Local 11. The union is seeking to unionize the staff at the hotel and has permission to engage in lawful picketing activities. When we became aware of the ongoing nature of this = situation, we urged both the Hilton management and Unite Here staff to work together = to seek a solution that would benefit everyone. Unfortunately, they have = not been able to reach resolution and it is our expectation that the hotel = will be picketed during our conference. In order to minimize disruptions, we will be running extra shuttles between the hotels and have altered the = pick up and drop off location at the Hilton for the convenience of our = customers. You may be contacted by Unite Here. I want to assure you that we do not share personal information but the union staff has been quite = resourceful in researching speaker information from the conference schedule on the web site.=20 =20 I want to close by saying how much the staff at the Center on = Disabilities is looking forward to greeting you in two weeks. We have a record = number of participants eager to attend your sessions and I think that you will = find the keynote address with John D. Kemp to be a wonderful event. Until = then, I hope you all keep well. =20 Warm regards, Mary Ann =20 Mary Ann Cummins Prager, Ed.D. Director, Center on Disabilities =20 CSUN is committed to protecting your privacy and respecting your choice = for contact.
