when replying to Dan. Reader Preferences are indeed available as described in
my previous reply,  but they don't seem to work. In Adobe Acrobat Reader
9.3.2 running on Mac OS X 10.6.3, changing the pitch and speed (aka "Words
per minute") has no effect on "Read Out Loud". I thought maybe
it was accessing speech settings from elsewhere, but if I change the speed
either in the OS Speech settings or in Universal Access (VoiceOver settings),
this has no effect on Acrobat's "Read Out Loud". <o:p></o:p></span></p>

Loud" feature is configured the same way on the Mac as it is in Windows.
Getting there is slightly different though. In Windows select Edit >
Preferences, then select "Reading" from the list of Categories. On a
Mac, select "Adobe Reader" > Preferences, then select
"Reading" from the list of Categories.  In both versions, once
you're in Reading Preferences, you can change the volume, voice, pitch, and
speed.  <o:p></o:p></span></p>
