Read2Go is a great app for DAISY books, but it is limited to DAISY (I hope they are cooking up something for EPUB). It is also relatively expensive for an iPad app ($20), but comes with a couple high-quality voices.<div><br>
</div><div>If you want something now that will read EPUB books aloud with synchronous text highlighting on iPad, try Blio. Blio itself is free, but to get voices you need to pay. The two best voices, IMO, are Heather and Ryan. They are $9.99 a pop and you buy them through the Blio app. When they are installed any EPUB book that you import into Blio (via iTunes) can be read with synchronous text highlighting. Also any book that you buy through the Blio store (via Get Books) will tell you if that book has TTS enabled. Unfortunately, many publishers are preventing TTS--a stupid practice that I'm hopeful will end soon.</div>
<div><br></div><div>As for generic TTS with highlighting, I think Sean is right that Speak It! is the only game in town. Speak It also can generate an AIFF audio file that a student can email to himself. AIFF files can be played back in iTunes/QuickTime.<br clear="all">

I believe this is an option in the recent versions of the Speak It! app. I am not sure if there is a specific setting (I don't have an iPad available right now to test), but will see if there is an enable/disable switch for the highlighting option.<br>

I want to point out, though, that the highlight feature is really just Speak It using the "selected text" option as opposed to something more like Kurzweil 3000 or other reading/tracking applications.<br>

There are a few applications that you may want to try out, but there<br>
is nothing that is the "killer app" (in my opinion) that supports<br>
the display of a PDF document in addition to high-quality<br>
text-to-speech.<br>

Most of the apps I have encountered that provide text-to-speech<br>
generally require a "copy/paste" model in which you have to copy the<br>
text content and paste this into the TTS app. Right now, Speak It!<br>
provides very high quality TTS options. The app will also highlight<br>
the word while speaking.<br>

If you have the ability to create DAISY books, another app that may<br>
be an option to consider is Read2Go. So far, it is one of the<br>
better DAISY apps I have seen on the iOS platform.<br>
