                                                <div class=""><p>The Interpreting and Alternate Media 
Services Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the delivery of 
alternative text media and interpreting services to the deaf and hard of
 hearing district-wide and for serving as student and staff interpreter 
for classes, services, activities and events as needed.</p>

                                                <div class=""><p>Within the scope of college policies and procedures, this position:</p>

<p style="margin-left:40px">Assists students in learning technology 
software and devices; performs conversion of text to alternative media; 
manages electronic textbooks for students; provides training and basic 
technical assistance on adaptive technology to faculty, staff and 
students with a focus toward Universal Design principles; researches and
 recommends technology and devices for students with disabilities; 
maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the assistive 
technology field</p>

<p style="margin-left:40px">Assesses individual needs for 
interpretation services and assures the delivery of appropriate 
accommodations; oversees part-time interpreters, assigns tasks and 
monitors performance; works with students, interpreters and faculty 
members in resolving issues and fulfilling needs; orients faculty to 
issues dealing with deaf and hard of hearing students; assists faculty 
in accommodating these students</p>

<p style="margin-left:40px">Interprets for college-level classes in a 
variety of disciplines and other student activities; orients faculty to 
issues dealing with deaf and hard of hearing students and assists 
faculty in accommodating these students; informs the Director of 
Disability Services of issues, violations, and recommended 
accommodations</p>

<p style="margin-left:40px">Offers workshops to promote disability 
services district wide and in area high schools; develops relationships 
with Vocational Rehabilitation Transition Services Counselors for high 
school students considering postsecondary education and will require 
accommodations; performs varied duties as required for testing, scribe 
and oral translation; serves as classroom aide as needed</p>

<p style="margin-left:40px">Assists the Director of Disability Services in budget projections to meet the needs of deaf and hard of hearing students</p>

                                                <div class=""><p><strong><u>REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</u></strong>:</p>

<p style="margin-left:40px">Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the US Department of Education</p>

<p style="margin-left:40px">NIC, RID, or CDI certification 
requirements and be licensed or eligible for licensure through The 
Arizona Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing</p>

<p style="margin-left:40px">Experience providing interpretative services to deaf and hard of hearing individuals</p>

<p style="margin-left:40px">Preference may be given to individuals with direct service experience working with students with disabilities</p>

<p style="margin-left:40px">Possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona Driver’s License </p>

<p><em>An equivalent combination of education and/or experience from 
which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved may 
be considered</em></p>

<p style="margin-left:40px">Knowledge of and ability to follow college policies and procedures</p>

<p style="margin-left:40px">Knowledge of disability law/compliance in a postsecondary environment</p>

<p style="margin-left:40px">Knowledge of deaf culture</p>

<p style="margin-left:40px">Knowledge of current technologies and word
 processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software, 
specifically Microsoft Office applications</p>

<p style="margin-left:40px">Knowledge of assistive interpretive software, specifically Kurzweil 3000, Zoomtext, JAWS, Accommodate</p>

<p style="margin-left:40px">Skill in interpreting and utilizing American Sign Language</p>

<p style="margin-left:40px">Skill in analyzing and problem solving</p>

<p style="margin-left:40px">Skill in establishing and maintaining 
effective working relationships with other department staff, faculty, 
students and the public</p>

<p style="margin-left:40px">Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to relate to others in a professional, helpful manner</p>

<p style="margin-left:40px">Ability to relate to a diverse population and to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations</p>

<p style="margin-left:40px">Ability to multi-task and organize, 
prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion
 with an attention to detail</p>
