<p>Thanks for sharing this, Jennifer. Kudos to Minnesota IT
Services for all the work they did to make the Facebook Live event
accessible, and especially for sharing all their lessons learned
with the community!</p>
<p>A couple additional tips for others who are considering
captioning Facebook Live events:</p>
<ul>
<li>Ask your captioning company if they can provide a WebVTT or
SRT caption file after the event. MN IT detailed how you can
manually create an SRT file from the transcript of an event, but
some companies can provide you with a time-stamped caption file,
which saves a lot of effort. <br>
</li>
<li>Providing a link to a caption feed is a good option if you
only have a few users who need to access the captions, but there
is actually a way to have the captions streamed directly to
Facebook, so that any user can just hit the CC button and see
them. To do this you need do have access to a caption encoder
device (they can be rented for one-time events), but your
captioning company should be able to explain the options. <br>

</ul>
<p>I've seen more and more organizations recently that have
live-streamed and captioned events likes this -- graduations,
athletic events, press conferences, and more. It helps ensure that
the entire community is included, and it is deeply appreciated by
everyone who uses captions.</p>
