<p class="MsoNormal">I think we would probably all agree that the use of Alt-Text to support images in text books is different than for general web accessibility.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I teach my student employees to use the “drill down” technique for images in textbooks. Start with an overall description, then when warranted by the image, add increasingly complex descriptions, going into more details regarding what the
image conveys.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">This makes the assumption that the user can get the gist if they just listen to the beginning of the alt-text, or can listen to more of it if they wish, in order to get more complete description.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">My questions are “Are other people doing this?”<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">And “Are the assumptions reasonable?”<o:p></o:p></p>
