The big advantage of the original Echo and the new Echo II is simplicity of use: record continuous audio and automatically sync handwritten notes to that audio using just the smartpen and special microdot paper notebook – no other devices needed. Other Livescribe pens like the Symphony, Livescribe 3*, and Aegir* (*discontinued) required linking to a separate device connected via Bluetooth to do the audio recording, as those pens don’t have built-in microphones.
