<div class="">I generally refer to such test-taking memory aids as cue cards to distinguish them from note cards, as the latter might be misinterpreted by an instructor. A “notecard" is presumed to contain a reduced version of information that could be used
on a test – e.g., terms and definitions, examples of how to use formulas, important names and dates, specific facts, etc. A "cue card", though, prompts retrieval of information from memory but does not contain usable information – it generally only makes
sense to the person who created it. In short, it triggers memory rather than serving as a substitute for memory.</div>

<div class="">Depending on what is being tested, a proper cue card might have things like:<br class="">

<li class="">Mnemonics (e.g., "Old People From Texas Eat Spiders" to prompt recall of the cranial bones: Occipital, Parietal, Frontal, Temporal, Ethmoid, Sphenoid)</li><li class="">Easily-referenced equation (e.g., quadratic formula) without showing how it's used</li><li class="">Color-coded diagram or picture with no labels</li><li class="">Simple mindmap</li></ul>
