Applications for our Autumn course offerings are now live and can be completed here <https://fhl.uw.edu/courses/applying-for-an-fhl-course/> . Early acceptances for applications submitted before June 1, all others admitted after July 1 on a rolling basis.

Friday Harbor Laboratories prides itself in providing students with hands-on learning focused on field research in marine science. Spend your autumn quarter at UW's satellite field station in the beautiful San Juan Islands getting your hands dirty!

We are offering two Research Apprenticeships and a brand new Autumn Marine Studies program as listed below:

* Autumn Marine Studies <https://fhl.uw.edu/courses/course-descriptions/course/autumn-marine-studies-2022/> (16 credits): Take two courses to learn ecology and biology in the Salish Sea and a third course to conduct your own research project.

* Ecology and Human Interactions in the Salish Sea (FHL 469)
* Comparative Anatomy and Physiology of Marine Organisms (FHL 471)
* Research in Marine Biology: Biological Response to Changing Ocean Conditions (FHL 470)

* Biodiversity and Monitoring of Estuarine Ecosystems <https://fhl.uw.edu/courses/course-descriptions/course/biodiversity-and-monitoring-of-estuarine-ecosystems-bmee-2022/> (FHL 472) (15 credits). Learn a wide range of biological and geochemical sampling and analyses at UW's biological preserve in False Bay, San Juan Island, and conduct your own research project.

* Same price regardless of Washington State residency or UW matriculation status!

* <https://fhl.uw.edu/courses/course-descriptions/course/pelagic-ecosystem-function-in-the-san-juan-archipelago-2022/> Pelagic Ecosystem Function in the San Juan Archipelago (OCEAN 492) (15 credits). Get on research vessels to examine patterns, interactions, and links within our complex marine ecosystem and conduct your own research project.

All of these courses are eligible for Mary Gates Endowment scholarships for UW students! Many of our courses count towards your degree requirements (IFE, ecology, etc.). Check with your advisor.

Note on DEI, Accessibility, and Financial Aid: FHL is committed to DEI and values applicants hailing from diverse backgrounds and experiences. All FHL courses require fieldwork to some extent, which can be challenging for individuals with certain disabilities. If you're unsure about applying due to a disability, contact FHL's Academic Services Manager, Mason Wiley ( <mailto:masonfhl at uw.edu> masonfhl at uw.edu) to discuss accommodation options. FHL has financial aid opportunities <https://fhl.uw.edu/courses/financial-aid/> specifically for students taking our courses. You will find a section of the application where you can let us know what your needs are.
