If you are interested in learning how to get into the Neuroscience or Biology major, or interested in mentoring others on how to do so, please apply for a UW Neurobiology Club mentor or mentee position using the forms below by Saturday, April 8th. Mentor pairings are meant to give students interested in careers in neuroscience or biology an opportunity to learn from their peers and upperclassmen, and foster a close friendship that encourages mutual learning and success. Mentor pairs commit to personal meetups ideally around twice a month, getting to know each other through casual social activities in addition to Neurobiology Club-organized events. Apply to be a mentor here: https://forms.gle/LB6nEuGgCpLZ4aiN7 We are looking for reliable mentors, preferably sophomores, juniors, or seniors, who can ideally commit at least 4-5 hours per month! Mentors do not have to already be in their major! This is a great way to gain leadership and mentorship experience; you will work with students/mentees, either one-on-one or in group settings, to serve as a guide on their UW journey and introduce aspiring Neuroscience or Biology majors to campus resources or academic services to help them get into their major. Our expectations of mentors will be to: - Actively participate in mentorship and commit 1-2 hrs per week - Reach out to and build a relationship with an assigned mentee - Attend a one-time mandatory virtual orientation in April, date TBD - Attend at least 1 social or mixer event a quarter - Be willing to share your own experience and UW journey, campus resources, and academic opportunities Apply to be a mentee here: https://forms.gle/JNQiDJCdRuJbmozG6 Our expectations of mentees will be to: - Actively participate in mentorship and commit at minimum 4-5 hrs per month - Build a relationship with an assigned mentor - Reach out to mentor with questions about UW journey, campus resources, and academic opportunities ? The Climate Science Minor aims to give students a strong interdisciplinary foundation in climate science with opportunities to explore policy, energy, and human dimensions of climate change. This minor is for any undergraduate who wants to understand climate change science from a broad perspective. A word about the requirements. We strongly recommend that interested freshmen and sophomores take ESS 201 or ATM S 211 as soon as possible, since they are prerequisites for the capstone course ATM S/ESS/OCEAN 475 which is offered once a year. Students also take one quantitative skills course AND one course from each of four topic areas with opportunities to explore paleoclimate, marine pollution, climate justice, ecology, the Arctic, and more. The updated elective structure allows for more choice in how the requirements are fulfilled. Check out the expanded options! Students are encouraged to meet with the Climate Science Minor Advisor, Miriam Bertram, for course planning. We hope to hear from you soon! The American Medical Student Association (AMSA) of UW is thrilled to announce that Mock ER is open for general registration starting TODAY! What is Mock ER? Why should you participate? How do you register? Let's break it down: Being an undergraduate trying to get all those med school prerequisites is tough. There's volunteer work, research, MCAT prep, leadership, not to mention all the classes you need to study for...but the issue we've noticed is we rarely get to see what actual clinical problem solving looks like. So, we've put together a 3-hour representation of real emergency medicine in which you'll be competing in teams of four to triage, diagnose, and treat patients. The catch? While some of the diagnostic tests provided will help you properly treat each patient, there will also be tools that will be useless or misleading to make this simulation even more representative of an emergency room. Collaboration, discussion, and research with teammates will be crucial for success in this competition. Clinical cases used in the event have been curated by physicians and medical students, and you'll have the opportunity to walk through each case with them to go over the proper diagnostics and treatment for each case. Think you're up for the challenge? Registration opens today and closes Friday, April 28th at 11:59 PM PDT. Last Mock ER, our registration filled within 24 hours of opening so make sure to secure a spot fast! Registration is guaranteed for the first 72 registrants. To register for Mock ER, please fill out the form below: https://forms.gle/vfL37VoyicbhXovc6 By filling out this form, you commit to being present and active during the entirety of our Meet the Team Event on Friday, May 19th from 8-9 PM (virtual on Discord) and the Mock ER event on Saturday, May 20th from 2-5 PM at the Husky Union Building (HUB), Room 332.
