NATURE OF ORGANIZATION

The Biology Greenhouse is a teaching and research facility which houses our large and diverse plant collection..

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Under the supervision of Biology greenhouse staff, the greenhouse assistant is responsible for plant care including watering, weeding, plant propagation, as well as general facility maintenance. This position will also assist with curatorial duties. Greenhouse staff provide year-round care for the plants. Hours are flexible between 8 am-5 pm., with availability on weekends, some holidays & academic breaks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Requirements:
-Must be a UW student, with a Federal Work Study award verified through the Office of Student Financial aid.

-Enthusiastic plant-loving individual with some course work in Plant Sciences, Botany, or Horticulture. Hands-on experience in greenhouse preferred, but not necessary. Plant identification knowledge is desirable.

-Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of this job, including lifting 40 lbs. and standing for long periods of time.

EDUCATIONAL BENEFITS This position will provide hands-on experience in greenhouse plant care, plant production, plant history and ecological importance of the plant pollinator relationships.
