Nature of Organization

The Biology Greenhouse is a 20,000 Ft2 teaching and research facility which houses a large and diverse plant collection, supports research, teaching and outreach activities for department, campus and local communities.

Duties & Responsibilities

Under the supervision of Biology greenhouse staff, the greenhouse assistant is responsible for awaiting with plant care including watering, weeding, plant propagation, as well as general facility maintenance. Greenhouse staff provide year-round care for the plants. Hours are flexible between 8 am-5 pm., with availability year round on weekends, some holidays & academic breaks.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be a UW student with a Federal Work Study award verified through the Office of Student Financial aid. -Enthusiastic plant-loving individual with some course work in Plant Sciences, Botany, Ecology or Horticulture. - Hands-on experience in greenhouse preferred, but not necessary. Plant identification knowledge is desirable. -Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of this job, including lifting 40 lbs. and standing for long periods of time. -Must be available to work 1 weekend day per week, along with some weekday hours.

This position will provide hands-on experience in greenhouse plant care, plant production, Plant ID, plant history and ecological importance of plant pollinator relationships.
