Message-ID: ??Hello! The American Medical Student Association (AMSA) of UW is thrilled to announce that Mock ER is open for general registration starting TODAY! What is Mock ER? Why should you participate? How do you register? Let's break it down: Being an undergraduate trying to get all those med school prerequisites is tough. There's volunteer work, research, MCAT prep, leadership, not to mention all the classes you need to study for...but the issue we've noticed is we rarely get to see what actual clinical problem solving looks like. So, we've put together a 3-hour representation of real emergency medicine in which you'll be competing in teams of four to triage, diagnose, and treat patients. The catch? While some of the diagnostic tests provided will help you properly treat each patient, there will also be tools that will be useless or misleading to make this simulation even more representative of an emergency room. Collaboration, discussion, and research with teammates will be crucial for success in this competition. Clinical cases used in the event have been curated by physicians and medical students, and you'll have the opportunity to walk through each case with them to go over the proper diagnostics and treatment for each case. The winning team of four will receive a prize! Think you're up for the challenge? Registration opens today and closes Sunday, May 12th at 11:59 PM PDT. Last Mock ER, our registration filled within 24 hours of opening so make sure to secure a spot fast! Registration is guaranteed for the first 72 registrants. While we hope that both parties can reach an agreement very soon, the strike has begun. We understand that this strike can lead to stress and questions for everyone involved, including the undergraduates enrolled in Biology courses, the instructors, and of course the graduate student TAs themselves. Our goal is to try to reduce stress and support people during this time. For students enrolled in our courses, we will do our best to continue to provide excellent educational opportunities to the extent we can. However, we know that our graduate students provide countless hours of essential and caring teaching in many of our courses. The instructor of your course has been encouraged to communicate to students all strike-related changes to their course schedule and assignments in a timely fashion. If you have questions specific to your course, please contact your instructor. If you have any further questions, please email schivell@uw.edu. This event is meant to provide a space and loose guidelines for students to pair up with a "body double" AKA someone that acts as an accountability buddy simply by being present and working on their own projects. After introducing themselves and stating their intended goal, each person will work independently until they are ready to leave. At this point, each participant will share what progress they made and gratitude for their partners. It should be a very relaxed, low pressure environment. We will also have some UW Libraries swag for folks stopping by for the event! *Body doubling is utilized by many neurodivergent folks to complete tasks that are presenting a challenge for one reason or another, which can include studying, writing, reading, cleaning, etc. For more information on body doubling, please visit: https://tinyurl.com/yrbjfau3 We hope to see you there! ?Emilie Vrbancic Undergraduate Experience Librarian Undergraduate Student Success Team University of Washington Libraries 206.616.2872 | vrbancic@uw.edu pronouns: she/her -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
