ATHEN:

We are in the early stages of designing a new layout for the McBurney Disability Resource Center, which is the campus center serving students with disabilities (often known as a DSS office). The design team is interested in visiting or talking with different campuses regarding layouts and designs that have worked particularly well, including new construction and remodels.

We would appreciate hearing about any centers you are aware of (or work at) that have layouts/designs that are particularly innovative, effective, and universally accessible. We welcome suggestions for centers that aren't specific to students with disabilities as well.

In addition, I am also looking for layout ideas specific to:
* assistive technology & computer labs
* alternative media production (both print & captioning)
* containment of Braille embosser sound (beyond the various enclosures)
* technology loan/storage areas that integrate charging & networking for maintaining device readiness for laptops, ALDs, CD players, etc.

Please feel free to respond on or off list.

Thank you,

Todd Schwanke
