[Athen] Alternative Format and Read & Write Gold

Read write gold may work in certain situations. A colleague and I has
been going through the database resources for the library to determine
whether or not they are accessible. Ones that are true HTML and web
based usually work pretty well -- search engine, search results, and
article text. There are some databases that are so proprietary and so
locked down there is no way to use a JAWS and read and Write Gold read
the actual text. Kurzweil 3000 virtual printer only works if you can
print the document -- if you can't print it and can't save it you can't
use the virtual printer. Google scholar, and Ebrary is a good example.
There is actually no way to get access to text. You can start an
account request a text version of the document and then you do have
access without any difficulty. But your average student that doesn't
know that it is necessary. Read write gold does have a small
application that allows you to scan on-the-fly -- select the area of the
text you want and then it will scan it and then open it in a separate
dialog box allows you to highlight and reads. This is slow and not
practical for reading a lot of text.

Probably too much information than you want to know.
