Cool, glad you have had a great experience with them. I have not had
similar experiences, nor have most of my client projects J.

I didn't see any reference to "production work" but these scanners are very
fast for "non-production work" and I still have the first models they came
out with and they are working fine...

I would not suggest one of these scanners for production work they will not
typically last very long and they are extremely slow to scan a page in
comparison to many of the office or workroom grade scanners. For a good
reasonable priced "production" scanner I would start looking at either the
Xerox Documate series:
http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/default.aspx?EDC=1534598 or the Fujitsu FI
series: http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/default.aspx?EDC=991650 I
currently am using both of these units in several of the projects I am
working with.
I really like the Canon LIDE series for a scanner that I can check out to a
student along with a laptop in a backpack unit that makes them very
independent. It works well, is low cost and as a result I don't worry so
much about it being dropped and destroyed.

I agree, all of our single scanners are the Lide series and I've never had
any problems with them.

The Canon Canoscan LIDE series (100, 200, and 700) have a very slim profile
and are fast with good quality scans. They run from $63 to $133. I think
they still come with the Paperport software but it has been a while since I
ordered one. They also run off USB power so you don't have to find an extra
plug and are mobile for laptop use...

Anyone have recommendations for a PaperPort-like single-document scanner
that will sit unobtrusively on a desktop and allow scanning of single sheets
or cards or other information to turn into either PDF's or JPG's to attach
to electronic records? I have some money to spend and would like to have
something like this but honestly haven't looked in years.
