EASI Opportunities in September
EASI has five events in September to highlight: 2 online courses and 3
Webinar events.
The September courses are:
Barrier-free Information Technology
The emphasis in this month-long course will be on creating structures that
will lead to the institution-wide system change as required by recent
disability-related legislation.
The course will be useful for:
administrators,
ADA compliance officers
admissions officers
computer support staff,
instructional support staff,
online learning support staff
disability services staff,
faculty,
librarians

Creating and Repurposing More Accessible Content
Topics include:
A foundation for repurposing content
Globally accessible content rather than customized accommodation for each
student.
Adaptive scanning technology.
Scanning and OCR [Optical Character Recognition] software [ and the
process of creating digital content from print.
The importance of logical document structure or a logical reading order.
The role formatting plays in the understanding of content.
Braille
DAISY [Digital ]Accessible Information System].

Tobi is designed to ease the process of synchronizing a text document with
human narration, including page numbers, hierarchical table of contents,
images, footnotes, etc.
Fee-based 4-part Webinar: The 4 Secrets of Accessible Online Teaching
September 8, 15, 22 and 29
Presenters: Norm Coombs and Marisol Miranda
Times: 11 AM Pacific, Noon Mountain, 1 PM Central, 2 PM Eastern
Online learning is a complex mix of several technologies and several groups
of faculty, staff and students. This Webinar series will focus on 4
ingredients of this mix:
Accessibility and usability of the online interface
Organization and communication of the course content
Use of styles and semantic markup features in authoring tools
Verifying the accessibility of the course content

The Dick Banks Memorial Scholarship provides a limited number of
