Universal Design Technical Consultant in the Universal Design Center

Major Duties
Under general supervision, Universal Design Technical Consultant conducts technical analysis to identify suitable software applications which support faculty and staff in incorporating accessibility, interoperability, and usability into their web design. Tests web applications for Section 508 compliance and CSU Accessible Technology Initiative related policy; develops technical solutions that function across software application platforms; works frequently with application and web developers at all levels to describe accessible design best practices, usability, and universal design concepts and provides direct assistance with creating Section 508 compliant HTML, CSS, and JavaScript code. Develops web applications, and utilizes application- scripting skills to support the creation of accessible code. Researches, improves, and creates universal design and accessibility documentation materials. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a job related field; bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering Science, Information Systems, Human Factors or a related field preferred. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis for up to two years. Equivalent to three years of full-time, progressively responsible computing experience that includes user support services. Knowledge, Specialized Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of: information technology systems and/or applications; generally accepted methods of documentation; and methods and techniques of programming. Ability and specialized skills to; apply and assess user needs; identify, analyze, and address user problems; communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing to individuals and groups; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, Java, JavaScript, XHTML, SMIL, PHP, SQL, AJAX, HTML 5 and/or Python; ability to use accessibility evaluation tools, and ability to use validation and verification programming tools. Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively in a team environment. Preferred qualifications include knowledge of best practices for accessible web sites and applications; and familiarity with best practices for accessible audio/visual technologies. Supervisory experience desired.
