Tactile Graphics Designer




This position is in the Accessible Textbooks Department, under the immediate
supervision of the Director.


MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


1. Develops, modifies and implements tactile graphics styles, standards
according to contract specifications.

2. Maintains a storage and catalog system, including global library, for
electronic graphics. (Tactile Graphic Image Library)

3. Quality reviews and repairs tactile graphic designs.

4. Assists in the design of training plan and program for training
tactile graphics artists; both inside and outside APH.


EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


1. Bachelor of Science in Graphic Design preferred, however candidate
with a Bachelor's degree in liberal arts, fine arts or humanities is
acceptable provided the candidate has verifiable experience in graphic
design.

2. Three to four years of experience as graphic designer.

3. Substantive experience in developing tactile graphics for students who
are blind or visually impaired highly preferred. Otherwise successful
candidate must be capable of quickly learning braille codes, formatting and
Braille translation software, etc.

4. Ability to communicate effectively an understanding of the difference
between visual and tactual perceptions.

5. Strong writing, word processing, and database management skills
required.

6. Demonstrated or verifiable training in the use of computer drawing
software (e.g., CorelDRAW, Adobe Illustrator, Macromedia Freehand) required.

7. Demonstrated experience in collage tooling, microcapsule paper, and
computer generated graphics.

8. Excellent communication and presentation skills required.

9. Special Requirement: Must be able to submit three samples of
original tactile graphic design or work upon request.


COMPENSATION:


Pay Grade: 7 Minimum: $18.75 Midpoint:
$23.26
