Assistive Technology Specialist

The Disability Support Services is currently accepting applications for an Assistive Technology Specialist to support the mission of Disability Support Services (DSS) in providing legally mandated accommodations and services under Section 504 and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and the ADA, with an emphasis on administering assistive technology accommodations for students with disabilities and removing technology-related barriers to equal educational opportunities.



Responsibilities


Promotes access for students with disabilities with a focus on technology; coordinates accommodations involving assistive technology for DSS students, including screen readers (e.g. Kurzweil, Jaws), writing software (e.g. Dragon Dictate), smart pens, magnification (e.g. Zoomtext, CCTV), and mouse alternatives; manages problems related to assistive technology use, including troubleshooting, repair, and replacement of hardware and software; coordinates technical test accommodations for students; researches new assistive technologies to ensure the DSS testing lab has up-to-date software and equipment; and consults with faculty and staff to troubleshoot and resolve issues involving classroom technologies that result in barriers to accessibility for students with disabilities, such as smart classroom equipment and components of online courses.



Qualifications


Bachelor's degree and 1 year of related experience; proficient with Microsoft Office; experience with PeopleSoft, Kurzweil, Dragon Dictate, JAWS, Livescribe Smart Pen, Zoom Text, Texthelp Read & Write Gold, Inspiration, and Student Accommodations Manager (SAM) preferred; knowledge of disabilities, and Section 504, 508, and ADA laws; ability to interact effectively with students, staff, and faculty; strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; and ability to handle confidential information with tact and discretion. A Criminal Background Investigation is required for the hired candidate and the results may impact employment.



Salary
