[Athen] Livescribe and note taking

Hi Lorraine,

I work at FIT in NYC. We currently have and loan out 25 Livescribe Pens a semester. We use the echo Pens, that require no internet connectivity. We have 10 8gb, 10 4gb, and 5 2gb pens that we loan to student based on the amount of classes they are using the pen in. We also provide students the notebooks and ink refills for the pens over the semester. The ink containers are quite small and run out quickly so always make sure you have plenty on hand. Generally we never register the pens nor have them create an account with the pens, it's just easier to hand them off to the next student the following year. Our students love them and the demand for them is high. We started with only 5 pens, and each semester we have been adding more to our collection. Generally if we give a student a livescribe pen we do not also assign a notetaker for that class. Lastly and the most important advice I can give is to get the serial numbers off the pens as soon as they arrive. When you talk to tech support (and trust me you will) they will ask for that right away.

We are in the process of doing a pilot study on live scribe pens and implementing them at BU. Any feedback or information you can share with us on how you loan the pens if you use them or if you still use note takers, would be very helpful.

Thanks

Lorraine
